Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pie

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt until combined.
3. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking until the mixture is smooth.
4. Pour in the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until everything is well blended and the batter is creamy.
5. If desired, stir in a pinch of nutmeg or lemon zest for a touch of extra flavor.
6. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
7. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set but slightly jiggly.
8. Allow the pie to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
9. Serve chilled or at room temperature with whipped cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
