Chocolate Coca-Cola Cake

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round pans.

Step 2: In a saucepan, combine Coca-Cola, butter, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.

Step 3: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Pour hot Coca-Cola mixture over dry ingredients and stir well.

Step 4: Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

Step 5: Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes (25–30 minutes for round pans), until a toothpick comes out clean.

Step 6 (Frosting): In a saucepan, combine butter, cocoa, and Coca-Cola. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Stir in nuts if using.

Step 7: Pour warm frosting over the hot cake, spreading evenly. Let cool before slicing.

Tips & Secrets

  • Use real Coca-Cola (not diet or zero) for the best flavor and texture.

  • Pour frosting over the cake while hot so it soaks in slightly.

  • For extra indulgence, split the cake into two layers and spread frosting in between (as in the picture).

Serving & Storage

Serve at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a glass of milk. Store covered at room temperature for 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Variations

  • Add mini chocolate chips to the batter for a double-chocolate version.

  • Swap pecans for toasted coconut in the frosting.

  • Use cherry cola for a fun cherry-chocolate twist.

Conclusion

This Chocolate Coca-Cola Cake is moist, rich, and nostalgic — the perfect mix of classic Southern baking and chocolatey indulgence. With its fudgy frosting and tender crumb, it’s guaranteed to become a favorite at any gathering.
