Classic Homemade Apple Pie

This traditional apple pie features a buttery, flaky crust with a perfectly spiced apple filling. The golden, latticed top and tender apple slices make this dessert an all-time favorite. Whether for holidays, special occasions, or just because, nothing beats a slice of warm apple pie!

Ingredients

For the Pie Crust (Double Crust)

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water

For the Apple Filling

  • 6-7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk or water
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
